Good evening from Whitechapel in 1888. Just a brief update tonight on a couple of interesting news articles. The apparently aborted attack about ten days ago is picked up by the Daily Telegraph today, heightening the sense of fear. It adds a little more detail to other reports: "it is understood that the Metropolitan police have for some time been cognisant. The bloodthirsty maniac who is now terrifying Whitechapel unsuccessfully attempted another outrage. She who narrowly escaped death is married, but admits entering into conversation with a strange man for an immoral purpose. She alleges that he tripped her up, so that she fell upon the pavement. He made an effort to cut her throat. She shielded herself with her arm & received a cut. Alarmed, and fearing her shrieks, the would-be murderer ran off.
Another report in yesterday's Star drew attention to a case which showed the suspect might be "The Man From Texas. The perpetrator of Whitechapel murders may be a man who months ago committed a series of remarkably brutal murders in Texas. The crimes aroused less interest than would otherwise have been the case because the victims were chiefly negro women. The mysterious crimes in Texas have ceased. They have just commenced in London. His peculiar line of work was executed in precisely the same manner as is now going on in London."
Another letter has also been received, sent to The Star and published yesterday. Interestingly "Jack" claims to be an American. "As you take greate interest in the Murders i am the one that that did it wouldent you like to see me but you shant just yet. i have done 6 i am going to do 14 More then go back to america the next time i shall do 3 in one night."
