4th Sep 1888
Good evening from Whitechapel, 1888. Papers continue to give column inches to the murder last week, connecting it to 2 others.
"It has so many points of similarity with the murder of two other women that police admit they are the work of one individual. All 3 women were of the class called "unfortunates" each so very poor that robbert could have been no motive for the crime. Each was murdered in a similar fashion, and all three were within a distance of 300 yards of each other."
The newspaper coverage is assigning the deaths of Emma Smith in April, Martha Tabram in August and now Polly Nichols to one man.
Last night Amelia Palmer bumped into her friend Annie Chapman in Dorset Street. She was bruised and feeling unwell. Tonight, Amelia finds Annie Chapman near Spitalfields Church. Annie say she feels no better, and should go into the casual ward. Amelia remarks that she looks very pale, and asks if she's eaten. Annie says, "No, I have not had a cup of tea to-day."
Amelia gives Annie two-pence to get tea, and tells her not to get any rum at night at times. Annie tended to drink her money.
That's all for tonight, folks. Annie is off to contemplate a visit to the casual ward tomorrow, or maybe see her sister.
